Project Description

I learned how to do the manager, I studied so much to be so, to have the joy of sitting in the audience and watching my dreams when they became everyone’s dreams

Master Marcello Lippi is an internationally renowned Baritone, graduated in musicology, lyric vocal and modern literature, he edited and commercialized many musicological essays, and began his career as artistic director, also in charge of artistic oversight, at the Teatro Sociale di Rovigo in 2004, putting his theater’s experience as a singer and above all his knowledges around the world. In a few years Rovigo’s theater, accustomed to hosting a two-three-month lyric season with an average of four titles, was conducted by the master to host a nine-month season of up to fourteen works and ballets, thanks to a dense network of collaborations and cooperation that made it possible to optimize the very low budget available, thus ensuring the regularity of work for theater employees (technicians, electricians, requisite , tailors, hairdressers and make-up artists) who were all contracted with a short-term contract.

Each production of the Teatro Sociale di Rovigo has traveled for at least nine months for a dozen Italian theaters, engaging the rodigian workers and opening up cooperations with foreign theaters and with the reality of the European Private Managers.

The Teatro Sociale di Rovigo has collaborated closely with the Opera of Rome, the Verona Arena Foundation and the Fenice Theater in Venice, and with the theaters of Ravenna, Rimini, Trento, Bolzano, Padua, Bassano del Grappa, Treviso, Modena, Savona, Novara, Pisa, Lucca, Livorno, Catanzaro, Vicenza and theaters in Belgrade (Serbia), Ostrava (Czech Republic), Pleven (Bulgaria), Bad Schwalbach (Germany) Avignon and Nice (France), Alicante (Spain) and Dublin (Ireland).

In 2004 Rovigo’s Social Theater was a theater in crisis, with subscriptions reduced to a minimum: the 2007-2008 season increased by 103%.

In 2003, Rovigo’s performances in other theatres were 2, in 2008 were 53. External recitals have allowed, with a very low budget, to ensure rich seasons with titles of great appeal and titles of great musical interest. In 2008-9 he made the greatest productive effort with four home-made titles (“Traviata” directed by Denis Krief – “Turandot” directed by Brockhaus – “Amica” by Mascagni, directed by Grinda – “Rigoletto” directed by Kaegi- All internationally renowned directors, as well as conductors and interpreters).

In 2009 he was appointed artistic director of the Italian Opera Festival in London.

From 2011 to 2016 he was artistic director of the Fondazione Teatro Verdi of Pisa and also in this theater he doubled the titles in billboard, reshaped the budget (now in active), relaunched employment and production. The titles went from four of the previous years to the thirteen in the 2012-13 season. Co-productions were many and concern up to thirteen theaters throughout Italy.

Subscriptions raised of 137%, and all performances have been sold out, so that the Administration board has recognized him each year a significant production premium for his activity.

His capacity, been a singer, to have colleagues to sing at very cheap cachets, his musicological and musical knowledge, his ability to be related to the workers, his ability to negotiate and his theatrical and management know-how , they make it a valued professional in the artistic sector.

In 2011 he was teaching Theater Management at the Accademia del Teatro Alla Scala in Milan.
